I’m Back

2017-08-13 13.48.34

Well, how does one start a first entry back in over a year? I suppose I should start by saying hello to my readers old and new. Is anyone out there? Let me know if you are as I am quite unsure as to how this will go over.

Anyway, a lot has happened since my last post- nearly a year and a week ago. But before I tell you what I’ve been up to (post to follow) I need to say a few things. First, it is good to be back. I have had a voice in the back of my head for over a month whispering to me “You should to get back to it”. And believe me, I have wanted to. So here I am. Writing on a newly revamped blog. It is like sitting down for coffee with an old friend after ages apart. You just pick up where you left of, like nothing has changed.

I needed to take time away from Talk To My Shoes. I didn’t really intend my time away to be this long, rather just let my busy schedule take its natural course. Turns out, a year is what I needed. I think. While I love writing I was feeling like my entries were forced and I was posting just to have something checked off my to-do list, not really because I was loving the writing process. So here we are upon approach to restart my blogging, hopefully on a more regular basis… While Talk To My Shoes is mainly about the shoes I love, see and wear, I am hoping to include more posts just about my general interests- things I find interesting and amusing. Things I love. Places I go. Whatever sparks my creativity.

My goal is to share my joy of writing with my readers again, whether it be through little life updates, fashion and beauty entries, reviews and of course what started this whole thing- shoes!  I wish I could go as far as coming up with a regular posting schedule, but I think that was part of what did me in last time: “Sunday quotes” “End of month street style” “Five Favourites”, &c.  I was working with deadlines and due dates. I was working to keep up with something that wasn’t really there to begin with. I already have a job- and a very busy one at that. Blogging is meant to be my escape.

As a teacher my profession is full of due dates and deadlines. When to have report cards complete, complete marking assignments by ______, booking field trips, planning daily lessons, please sign and return by ______. The list is endless. So this time, scrap that. You can expect updates from me on a fairly regular basis (that only time will define for us). Updates will be there when they’re there and if you have subscribed or followed this blog, then you will be there too as they come along.

Anyway, like I said at the start of this entry, it feels great to be back. I’m looking forward to hearing from you (please don’t forget to say hello, I really love reading and responding to your comments!) and sharing with you what comes across my path. Perhaps tomorrow you will get a little update on what I’ve been up to in 2017, because y’know, by not writing, I basically kept the entire year to myself.

Talk soon!

xoxo

Bunny Flats

There is always something about a quirky novelty shoe that brightens up my day. These bunny flats by Kate Spade have been on high rotation since nabbing them this past Fall. I admit, at first although I loved them I was unsure exactly how much I’d wear them; but sure enough, I treat them as a neutral flat with a cotton tail and they make their appearance every so often.

These are comfy to boot with soft brushed suede and a fuzzy pom pom tail. Perhaps even cuter than the tail- the spade nose, the tiniest gold accent. The only unfortunate thing about these is that they are so light I can only wear them when it is completely dry outside, or indoors only. I know it is only January, but I can’t wait for spring to some so these can accompany me as I hop all around town.

Anyway, are you a novelty shoe fanatic or would you rather keep it classic and cool? Let me know in the comments below. Happy weekend!

Slightly Obsessed

Alright, here it is. I was browsing the after Christmas sales online seeing what trouble I could get into. And I found these. And I can’t stop thinking about them. And it is silly because open-toe booties where I live is a short lived season. But I am really thinking that I should make them happen anyway.

When I was in Vegas a couple years ago I remember eyeing a pair of open toe boots that took forever to get out of my head. I walked into a Herve Leger boutique somewhere round the Venetian shops and in that moment they were everything. These remind me so much of them, that kinda badass-beautiful that open toe boots present upon themselves. Dear Mr. Blahnik, you’ve done it to me again! Am I nostalgic? Crazy? Smitten? Determined.

Happy Sunday to you all- it is back to the grindstone for me tomorrow. Cross your fingers I survive.

Happy 2017!

Happy 2017 to all my readers! It has been a little slow going here with the end of holidays- I managed to get a little run down so I’m trying to take it easy until I get back to work and am launched back into sheer chaos. There is a LOT to look forward to in 2017 so hopefully I’ll be able to share with you as much as possible.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to post first this year but what better way to kick off the new year with one of my latest (and favourite) designs.

I designed these back in October and they arrived somewhere near mid November. Do I even need to say that they have been in high rotation since? These made appearances at numerous Christmas parties, concerts and even joined me for super casual work days. If you haven’t figured by now, I love anything glitzy with sparkle. I mentioned years ago that I potentially might be part magpie. That still remains. There is absolutely no inspiration to this design other than the fact that one morning I woke up with a huge craving for bronze glitter. So, over breakfast, I sat down and simple made it happen. With subtle piping detail. Simple as that. But what do you think? They are easily one of my favourite and most comfy pairs I’ve designed. I know I’ll be reaching for them again and again.

Hope everyone’s 2017 has started out in style. All the best to you and yours in this new year!
