February Wishlist

My February wishlist… or rather just a compilation of five “things” that I wouldn’t mind owning if they fell into my lap. I don’t really like the term wishlist because I’m not like…. vying for these items or anything crazy, but they certainly have caught my eye and am not offended that they cross my mind every so often. Some of these are much more attainable than others and I know that when I hit the shops next month on my trip to the States, I’ll be making a few pit stops to see if I can make any of these happen.

7 for all mankind

This button front playsuit from 7 For All Mankind is currently on sale and I keep thinking I want to add it to my closet. I haven’t bought new clothing in quite a while, did a massive closet clean out when I moved in to my new house a couple weeks ago and want to be very careful when adding new pieces. This denim playsuit is certainly cute. I like the slimming lines (makes a petite girl like me look a hell of a lot taller), and the beautiful denim material. My favourite bit? The criss-cross straps across the back.

Foulard Sandal

If you know me, you know I love shoes and that I friggin love Salvatore Ferragamo. It was brought to my attention recently that I own more Ferragamo than any other shoe designer in my collection. How wild is that? Anyway, these Foulard Sandals are new and absolutely stunning. I love the beautiful floral ankle tie detail. Also available in nude blush with a lower block heel.

Sweet Peach

Let’s face it. I am make up addicted. I am the proud owner of X amount of eyeshadow palettes and one of my all time favourites is the Just Peachy mattes palette by Too Faced. This palette here, their Sweet Peach palette, I believe is the original palette from the Peaches n’ Cream line Too Faced released at Sephora. Their shadows are very blend-able and hold beautiful pigment. Also, the shadows themselves smell like peaches!

Ted Baker Silk Scarf

This. This I MUST hunt down when I am in Arizona next month. How stunning is this?!?! Ted Baker, I have a soft spot for you. Because you release beautiful shit like this. When I was casually perusing the Ted Baker website one afternoon I stumbled across this and now fear that I am actually losing sleep. The Opulent Fauna Silk Cape can be worn a ton of ways- I’m just picturing it with great denim cut offs and my favourite beat up band tee. *le sigh*

Box Bag McQueen

Alexander McQueen box bag. How cool are these? Now I am, and have always been a huge McQueen fan and this is one of the reasons why. I love the edgy-yet-beautiful designs the house comes out with. This one in particular is well… one of those pieces that is available to pre-order yet already sold out. Available in a crap ton of sizes, colours, materials, &c. The composition of this bag is designed to be worn any which way- clutch, shoulder, crossbody. Extremely versatile. But I’d expect nothing less from Alexander McQueen.

Anyway, there you have it. Now it is your turn, what is on your February “Wishlist”?

Talk To My Shoes

Review: 7 For All Mankind “The Ankle Skinny”

I thought I’d try something a little different today. I often talk about shoes and accessories but rarely discuss one of my favourite clothing items- denim. I have been wanting to write some sort of “favourite denim pieces” article for years now, and while this is not it, it is a step in that direction.

I love denim. I could live in jeans but the problem is that I have the worst time finding a pair that fits perfectly. I have a petite frame and athletic yet curvy build. I’m very small in size and simply do not have long legs. So between all of this, finding a pair of denim that I love and looks good can be a challenge.

Now it is no secret that I love Rag and Bone, the cut of their jeans seem to never do me wrong. I’ve recently developed a love for Black Orchid that I want to share with you in a later post, and will never part ways with my Citizens for Humanity Rocket Skinnies in Axel black (But only in axel. For some reason the soft material of that wash works so much better for me than the regular denim pairs). But, after last November when I walked into 7 For All Mankind just to see what’s up, I scored what I think is potentially my favourite pair of distressed jeans.

These jeans fit. They keep their stretch and I can act like a ninja in stilettos if need be. They don’t slouch. The pockets sit high enough and are not too far apart. They are beautifully distressed and fit the edgy style I love so much- yet the distressing is clean so I can get away with dressing them up. The wash is a beautiful inky medium tone and the denim itself is so, so, so, soft.

The actual style of the jeans is their “Ankle Skinny” cut if you are interested. I know that they have a ton of different washes to choose from. I know that I cannot wait to get shopping there and see if I can land any more perfect pairs in this style.

I’ve always admired 7 For All Mankind. They’re one of the denim brands that is always on my radar. The few pairs I’ve worn over the years are of beautiful quality and never a single regret despite the hefty price tag. Last summer, I picked up what is now my favourite denim skirt from the store. No regrets again, just love. Do you have a favourite pair of jeans? Where are your favourite spots to hunt for denim?

Thanks again for stopping by and don’t forget to say hello in the comment section. I love getting to know my readers. Oh! And click here if you are interested in checking out a few pairs on sale. I promise they’ll be worth it!

Talk To My Shoes

2017-03-28 17.09.22-1Now in all honesty, Australia though always and forever on my bucketlist, wasn’t like this huge planned trip. I didn’t know I was going for sure until maybe a month or two before. The conversation as to how this happened went as follows:

A few days after Christmas:

Mom: “That was a fun Christmas. When will we see you again?”

Me: “Well, I have some time off in March so I’ll probably go down to Phoenix then and meet you there.”

Dad: “How about we go to Australia instead?”

Me: “OKAY!”

And that was that. Literally how we plan almost all of our vacations. Or how I plan at least.

Anyway, after a comedy of errors from Edmonton-Calgary and making it to Vancouver for our red eye flight into Brisbane I landed feeling buzzed and ready to go. Sure I was rocking a 17 hour time difference from home, but I managed myself on the longest plane ride of my life just fine. After an epic Australian breakfast (just kidding, I had an omelette like at any other hotel in the western world and I was thankful they did breakfast like a Canadian would. I think European breakfasts are such a nightmare) we were off to explore the city.

2017-03-29 11.26.38

When I’m on vacation my favourite thing to do is to explore. I don’t look at a map, I don’t ask for directions unless there is a must-see destination I have in mind. I know that is probably dangerous sounding but it is all in the name of adventure. I keep my head on straight and fuel myself with gelato as I go.

Brisbane is a cool city. Like, a never-mind-visiting-I’m-going-to-move-there-one-day, type city. They have stuff like sunshine and koalas. I found myself in the middle of a crazy world science fair one afternoon, at a beach in the middle of the city ten minutes later. An iguana basically attacked my foot while I was eating more ice cream in the botanical gardens another day. Scared the shit out of me. Then it had the attitude to turn around and stare at me. I think I will opt for facing a beaver in the Canadian wilderness than an iguana. I shopped and had amazing food the entire way through and enjoyed the company of the friendliest locals.

One morning I went to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Now, if you know me and anything about my #lifegoals I never really have had anything huge on my bucket list to do other than just to “hug a koala”. I just knew they give good hugs. Anyway, I could write an entire entry about my time at Lone Pine so I’ve opted to share with you pictures throughout this post of my Australian Animal adventure. I held a koala named Maximus, I fed giant red kangaroos and grey ones. I pet an Emu which was more like a terrifying Jurassic Park bird. This place is basically an Australian Animal Disneyland.

2017-03-28 10.24.09

After a week in Brisbane, we boarded a flight down to Melbourne. Melbourne is another amazing city, it offered more great food, great shopping with tons of fascinating little cobblestone side streets. I went to the aquarium one afternoon. I found a gallery with all of the artwork by Dr. Suess. I randomly collected socks. I filled my tummy with more gelato. One of the local girls was smitten over my accent. “Oh my gosh you have the most beautiful accent I have ever heard! Where are you from?????” ….Canada. Lol.

2017-04-01 11.27.31

Continuing the theme of “Australian Animals the Adventure” I took a full day trip to Phillip Island. Phillip Island is well, this little island kinda off the coast of Melbourne. After a drive there which included a stop to another animal sanctuary where I pet more koalas, contemplated kidnapping a wallaby, and another stop at a farm where the Alberta girl in me fed a beautiful horse and wanted to play with the highland cattle, we made it to this cutesie island.

2017-04-01 11.40.51-1

Probably my favourite wine on the planet is called “Little Penguin”. It is cheap. It tastes like adult kool-aid and is probably the most unsophisticated drink you will ever have. Anyway, I love it. No I could not find it anywhere. As the sun set I went to this “Penguin Parade” place on Summer Beach where you stare at the ocean and wait quietly to see the little penguins (That is actually what they are called. They are the smallest species of penguin!) waddle up the beach and try and make a break to their burrows for safety. They are cute and hilarious. I found myself totally caught up in watching them and following them back up the boardwalk cheering stuff like “Go penguin!” and “You can do it!” and “Run mthrfckaaaaa!” It was bizarre and amazing. The wind and rain were just howling everyone froze even though it was like 14C outside. It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. How can this tiny, tuxedo clad bird swim in what is almost the Antarctic Ocean all day, catch some fish, waddle home, sleep a few hours and do it again? Every day. Nature is a crazy thing.

2017-04-01 16.31.08

Anyway, I could probably keep rambling on and on about my trip down under. Its been ten months since I was there and I probably have thought about my trip every day since I arrived. I tell anyone that will listen about my penguin experience and show everyone in sight my pictures of the koalas.

If you have read this far down, thank you so much for sticking with me as I retold my adventure. What is the best holiday you’ve been on? Any place on your bucket list?

Don’t forget to say hi in the comment section below. I love reading your comments and responding to all my visitors.

Talk To My Shoes

Zebra and Pink

I don’t know why it is, but for some crazy reason, I always feel like I need a pair of zebra print shoes. It is not a print that is common or used neutrally like leopard print; and in all honesty, I don’t wear the print all the time because despite it’s monochromatism, it is very much a loud “look at me” print.  However, they are the epitome of my love for loud “look at me” shoes.

2017-10-01 19.58.23 (1)

One day last September during a very trying day at work and heavy with news of moving away on a new adventure, a good friend of mine told me to go home, relax and do something for myself. I couldn’t share with them what exactly what was happening at that point but I took the much needed advice immediately. So, soon after, there I was at home, sipping a cup of tea when an image of yet another pair of zebra print shoes flashed through my mind. I wasted no time in sitting down to make these babies come to life. I found myself escaping reality whilst designing this pair and regardless of how many zebra pairs I’ve designed at this point, I ask, “Could these be any more me?”

My design idea for this pair came instantly. I knew I wanted the perfect zebra pump. I knew that they needed to channel my inner 80’s rocker meets pink-loving-princess personality. I knew I wanted a slight quirk in the design and experimented with the cut of the toe box ever so slightly. I wanted these shoes to be me. The only thing I was unable to do that I wanted to add was a glitter sole. Just for that extra punch of obnoxiousness.

A few weeks later, upon my doorstep they arrived and I felt like I could power through anything in that moment. Zebra print is bold and powerful and these pumps seemed to give me the boost that I was needing. I have worn this pair a lot since adding them to my collection. I get tons of compliments on them each time I wear them but only I know how special they are and what they mean. My designs are all special to me and a reflection of who I am, but this pair marks a special page in my story. They are the perfect mix of chaos and quirkiness balanced with simplicity. And so is my life.

Thank you again to anyone for stopping by. Don’t forget to say hello, I love hearing from all my readers!
