Bunny Flats

There is always something about a quirky novelty shoe that brightens up my day. These bunny flats by Kate Spade have been on high rotation since nabbing them this past Fall. I admit, at first although I loved them I was unsure exactly how much I’d wear them; but sure enough, I treat them as a neutral flat with a cotton tail and they make their appearance every so often.

These are comfy to boot with soft brushed suede and a fuzzy pom pom tail. Perhaps even cuter than the tail- the spade nose, the tiniest gold accent. The only unfortunate thing about these is that they are so light I can only wear them when it is completely dry outside, or indoors only. I know it is only January, but I can’t wait for spring to some so these can accompany me as I hop all around town.

Anyway, are you a novelty shoe fanatic or would you rather keep it classic and cool? Let me know in the comments below. Happy weekend!

Staying Warm

Meanwhile in Canada…. The geese have gtfo, the temperature has been hovering around -30C where I live, and a moose fell through the ice and into the river. Seems to me that we are in the full swing of Winter up here. Oh yeah, and Santa is on his way.

I feel like living in the Great White North I miss out on all those cute “Winter dressing” outfits that everyone is posting. I read stupid articles about “How to stay warm in the winter” and see pictures has some girl wearing bare legs, over the knee boots and a sweater. Right. Brr. Cold. Hah. It drives me nuts because it just isn’t realistic for me. I am not really complaining, more so curious. I need a contrast in weather and temperature throughout the year or else I would probably go nuts. I need four seasons. But mostly just Summer and Winter.

After going through a cold snap over the last, what? Two weeks of -30ish weather and brutal winds I look forward to knowing it is warming up to a toasty -10 soon enough. But what does one actually wear? Because there is no way in hell I would walk outside in my Lowland boots with anything bare.

I go with jeans or leggings for sure, nothing crazy; my trusty Canada Goose (it is like wearing a sleeping bag outside, I love it) and most importantly, a good pair of boots. Now, it is like every time I mention the word Uggs somebody somewhere opens up a can of worms. Yes, Uggs are slippers really, and no they are not the best shoe for the winter. Snow and salt ruins them quickly as you’d observe here and they certainly are not meant for anything other than walking with a bag of groceries to the truck, or with wooly socks to the skating rink. But, for a short period of time, if it is dry enough, Uggs are perfect to wear outside in the cold. Also, who doesn’t like to feel comfy and cosy?

I’m currently on the market for a new pair, just to add to a few options as far as Winter boots go when I’m out and about. I have a pair of tan Short Classics and a heavy pair of tall Adirondack boots that have saved my life a few times. But for a shoe girl, that is quite limiting. I’ve shared with you a few pairs from the Uggs website that have caught my eye. Ugg Australia has really spruced things up as of late and stepped up their game. I love the new materials and designs. One of my favourite pairs? Bethany (pictured above), recently spotted on Rosie HW, never would have caught my eye before. Now? I need to try them on.

What do you wear on your feet when temperatures “plunge”? I am always so curious. I know I have a lot of readers living in chilly climates so I would love to hear from you. And you too, my readers that live where 10C is chilly (lucky ducks), you’re always welcome too.

Rerelease: Isabel Marant

marant-soono-bootEvery couple of seasons Isabel Marant releases a design that seems to make everyone in the fashion world go nuts over. Wedge sneakers, ankle boots of all types, and of course, the Soono boot that had everyone wrapped up in chains. It has been a couple of weeks now since Soono’s rerelease and the relaunch seems to be doing quite well. Spotted on models, fashion bloggers and anyone in between, the boot proves to be more versatile than believed.

I remember when the design was first released, sitting on the couch in my living room and having a little meltdown as a result of how outstanding I thought the design was. Something about the taupe pair with a hint of silver chain is perfect for my western roots. In the oddest sense, I see the pair on the left as a nice variation to a cowboy boot.

Anyway, what do you think? I know that this style, though newly rereleased, isn’t necessarily the type of design we see trending right now. Would you go back to this design? Or do you prefer to stay a bit more updated with your trends?

OOTD: San Gimignano

2016-07-30-16-48-39

A couple weeks ago I spent the day exploring the Tuscany region and all the Italian culture it has to offer. One of the highlights of my trip was an afternoon spent in San Gimignano (San Jimmy-Meow-Meow), a medieval hill top town south of Florence. The town is not only known for its many towers, but for its world-famous gelato. Yup, that is right, the “Best gelato in the world” is made there.

So here I am, battling the heat in an off the shoulder Wilfred dress and my Gucci disco soho crossbody, looking for more gelato as I had just run out. Unfortunately there wasn’t any in the well, though perhaps it was for the best as I would have shamelessly attempted to steal it.

This is easily one of my favourite pictures from the trip and my favourite memories. While I loved exploring ancient ruins in Rome, there is something about medieval architecture and street art (there were faded out crests on the stone walls lining the towers) that just pulls at my heart strings. Probably because it is as close to a fairy tale I will get, or the knights who say “Ni!”
